Weekly musings

The colder weather is finally here, so i can wear heavier scents. Vol de Nuit EDT for monday (this sounded soo good, but it is much too powdery vanilla and not enough galbanum, alas…), Femme de Rochas, Dzing!, Memoir Woman, Zagorsk and for sunday i wore Salome (still would like a bottle, but one tiny spritz is more than enough, so i try to empty my decant first).

On my plate i had persian celery ragout with meat, indian tomato chicken curry, a giant pot of hungarian bean and pork ribs soup and some rucola tomato salad.

After i had got a cold 4 weeks ago, finally my dry cough got better, so i was able to get on my bike again on friday. I am not very fit after coughing for weeks, but it was great to get outside again, even in the rain and cold. Thankfully i had bought rain trousers and a rain jacket, and they really kept me dry!

I also found my knitting mojo again after at least two years of failed projects (… okay, i made socks, i can knit them in my sleep) and after finishing my Victory jumper i am well into my 40s cardigan in a navy sock wool. I also made new fingerless mitts, because i lost my old grey pair last winter in a fall in the dirt. Such a nice project to use up the remains of sockwool.

Because of the energy crisis we turned the heating down and wear a lot more warm clothes at home. The boyfriend requested a cardigan, so i ordered some grey heathered swedish wool online at Eddna, plus some icelandic wool and unspun plötulopi in a hopefully nice darker blue. I also bought 2 cardigans worth for me in grey and a „sheer red“, which is hopefully a nice color for me.

While knitting i also had time to watch Locke and Key on Netflix. I really like mystery and sci-fi series. I tried to watch Brand New Cherry Flavor, but gave up on it, because it drifted too much into the horror genre. Maybe i give the whole StarTrek series another rerun afterwards. Any other series that you can recommend?

Vintage Zen EdC and my first try at Tteobokki

This weeks CP on NST war female perfumers so i was wearing only those. I started with Coriandre- Jacqueline Coururier, Sens & Bois- Celine Ellena, Dryad – Liz Moores, L´Air de Rien – Lyn Harris, Vintage Zen – Josephine Catapano, Doe in the Snow and Meet Me On The Corner- both by Sarah McCartney. I finished the sunday in lots of C&A First EDT, not a female perfumer, but it was what i was craving…

On my plate this week there was a lot of pasta, on monday with sardines and ricotta, friday with leeks and sausages and sunday with a tomato-turkey sauce. I made Kitsune donburi with some leftover aburraage (fried tofu pockets), some salmon with sesame-cabbage salad and a cauliflower soup with sausage and curry. The boyfriend cooked venison fillets with a nice sauce and pasta (again). And i make my first Tteobokki with gochujang and spinach, really easy and the nice heat of the gochujang paste was great on a cold spring day too.

I finally gave the book „ Sew your own activewear“ a go and sewed a prototype of biking shorts, which fit really nice, after i tweaked the inseams at the crotch a bit. I think i will sew a new biking wardrobe for this season. I am imagining a biking skort, because i feel a bit exposed in those short biking shorts and think it looks nicer with a bit of a skirt over it.

Perfumes this week were Aromatics Elixir, Chanel No19, First by Cleef and Arpels, Paradoxe, Scherrer, Dzing, L Air de Rien and Agent Provocateur

We still try to loose some weight, and had lowrr calorie meals with cabbage soup, rabbit with mushrooms, pulled turkey, pasta with ricotta and spinach, scrambled egg with kimchi and chicken legs with filled pumpkin.

We managed some evening walks but were too lazy for everything else, because of the grey and cold weather and spent too much time on the net.

Perfumes of this week were Roma, Pour La Belle, Empreinte, Covet and Salome for the cleaning community project on NST, as I chose the glamorous take on cleaning via a maid, but this sadly did not happen… I wore a mix of Avon Nearness plus Arpege on Saturday morning and Theo Fennel in the late afternoon. Sunday was lots of vintage Chanel No19.

On my plate I had Maultaschen in soup and later fried with eggs. I used some of last week’s spiced butter to fry some eggs. Saturday I used the last of the spiced butter for a pasta with asparagus and salmon and turmeric yogurt. This was a bit improvised, but really good… The boyfriend made Sauerbraten frankonian style with special Lebkuchen for sauces and potato dumplings. Sunday I did a bit of baking and made banana bread plus something called Quarkschnecken, pictured above.

I finally got my new car, a Skoda Fabia Combi in red. Now we can take our bikes to vacation, if we are allowed sometimes in the hopefully near future.

Amd I finally made all the buttonholes on my denim jacket and on the Gilbert top. So I now contemplate what to do next. Maybe the Stacker jacket….

Perfumes of this week were Scherrer (worn twice), Vintage Opium, Black Gemstone (good, but not something I like to wear), Fils de Dieu for Friday, Occur, Calligraphy Saffron and Vintage Miss Dior and later Narciso white cube, because they share the gardenia note.

Nina Lee dress, one pot pasta and the persian Nowrooz meal.

On my plate I had some Indian chicken legs with rutabaga puree, that was really nice together… I made Khoresht e Karafs, a persian stew with celery and meat plus lots of parsley and mint on Nowrooz. On Sunday there was one pot pasta for lunch, because we were hungry and I just wanted some simple pasta. The boyfriend made beef cheeks simmered to perfection in its own juices. We nearly ate this with a spoon. And we had a great red wine from Montalcino to accompany the meal. Plus I baked egg nogg cake, for the weekend.

I finished the dress from Nina Lee patterns and like it a lot. Sadly it is too thin to wear now. I also made boxer briefs for my boyfriend and started the Gilbert top from Helen’s Closet.

Weekly diary and recovering

I started to wear perfume daily, so I wore some roses for valentine week like Coriandre, Perles de Lalique, Lady Rose Lion and Une Rose de Kandahar. Aromatics Elixir for the year of the Metal Ox and on the weekend Scherrer plus No19 and Narciso for her EdT layered with Bottega Veneta. I tested Tralala but did not like it.

First outings in the sun after quarantine, homemade burger buns plus cheesecake

I felt a bit better, so I managed to cook a bit. We had a big pot of lentil soup with sausage, roast chicken legs on Fennel and Brussel sprouts with Gorgonzola and pasta. Friday the boyfriend made pizza and he baked burger buns, that we had with some nice organic beef patties. I managed to bake a cheesecake for valentines day and dinner will be salmon with sushi rice and leeks Japanese style.

I still have a bad cough from my covid infection, but it’s getting better slowly. Saturday was the first time in three weeks I was outside. We did a short walk around the cemetery and the pond and I was half as fast as usual. Some very old ladys with sticks were much faster than me and I was really tired afterwards. Still it was nice to be outside in the fresh air and feel the sun.

I finally finished all seasons of Criminal Intent on prime during my illness, because it was all I could manage. Reading was much too tiring for me. Now I started The Expanse, that I like okay, it’s a bit too political for me, but well made.

Worn this week were Aromatics Elixir, L Air de Rien, Zagorsk, SJP Covet, Doe In The Snow, Civet and vintage Miss Dior.

On my plate I had congee with ramen egg, Korean japchae with chicken, which I made for the first time a mnd I turned out great. We ordered pizza at work on Friday and I had my beloved anchovy and capers pizza. Saturday I made fried liver with apple, onions and smashed potatoes and baked a libanese orange cake. Sunday was homemade ramen with egg and chashu, all made from scratch.

We are still watching Criminal Intent, so many seasons to watch, we are just in number 4…but this gives me more time to knit some socks for my best friend in Berlin. We did some planning for our allotment garden and have sowed the first bellpeppers and artichokes.

Scents worn this week were Doe In The Snow, Aromatics Elixir, Botrytis, Meet Me On The Corner, Ambre de Merveilles, Chanel No19 and Memoire d’une Odeur. Funnily my sense of smell felt slightly enhanced this week, although I had a thankfully not Covid viral laryngitis.

On my plate I had red cabbage plus brats, pasta with tomato sauce and another one with truffeld pesto plus linguine with mussels. The boyfriend made roast Goose legs with spaetzle and red cabbage and sunday we had chicken noodle soup made from leftover carcasses, that we usually collect in the freezer until we have enough for soup.

I finished reading City of Girls, that I enjoyed a lot, although I had some problems to believe that a young woman in the 40ies could get from virginity to a threesome in just one year. What I liked was the description of the wartime NYC and the showbiz. It was a highly amusing read and I I can recommend it. Now I started Pachinko, but cannot say too much about it.

Perfumes i wore this week were Coriandre layered with Ma Griffe, 4160Tuesdays What i did on my holidays, Cabotine, Memoire d´une Odeur (nice, but very fleeting), Private Collection, Aromatics Elixir, Mitsouko, Terracotta, SJP Lovely Sheer, AC Jasmin Angelique.

On my plate: Chicken legs with Baharat and eggplant, smothered zucchini, green bean salad, meatballs, some Gyros and calamari at the greek restaurant. I did not do as much cooking as usual, because the boyfriend went to rehab on thursday.

I had a mammogram because of the screening program, thankfully i did not have to wait, it was quite empty. I finally managed to cycle to work again  on friday, because the weather finally got better.  The course goes around a mill in an idyllic valley, there are also some high stone benches, called “Gruhe”, where in older times the salesmen could rest their big backpacks on those benches. My commute is 22km one way, so this takes some time, even on an e-bike.

I managed to sew a bit on Sunday and started a hopefully wearable muslin on a denim jacket, hope it will fit okay.

Perfumes i wore this week: Untitled, Cabotine, Kenzo Amour, La Pausa (dislike), Iris Poudre (too elegant), Zoologist Elephant plus testing some fig perfumes like Premier Figuier, Ninfeo Mio, Figue Blanche and Fico d´India. I am still undecided, maybe i just stick with a few decants and don’t buy a FB. Sunday scent was Pour la Belle by Schlossparfümerie Stuttgart, a very classic and mossy chypre.

On my plate: Lamb and potatoes, oxtail stew with Semmelknödel, smothered fennel with gorgonzola and salsicchia, sausage salad, quark dumplings with rhubarb compote and tete de beau (veals head) with sauce gribiche and potatoes, raw broccoli salad with cheddar, peanuts and barberries. I made some “Seelen”, a typical Swabian bread roll for breakfast, soo good!

Creative: i did a lot for sewing preparation on saturday and cut two dresses, one nightshirt and a muslin for a denim skirt. I finished the nightshirt and also finished my mashup Concord/Plantain T-shirt from a special fabric with little sushi rolls.

I think the pattern now fits really good, so i finally have a good fitting t-shirt pattern. Next time i will shorten the sleeves a bit.

I wore a lot of remade clothes this week, because i try to participate in “memademay”, where sewists all over the world are wearing their own creations this month. Its also inspiring to look at all the photos at instagram.

Weekly diary- lockdown holidays

Getragen/Worn: Niki de Saint Phalle, Roma, Lumiere Dorée, Grimoire, Chypre Siam, Coriandre plus Ma Griffe combination, Shalimar EdT.  Scents of the Night: Café Tuberosa, Calligraphy Saffron, Avon Nearness, Tellus, Evoke for her, Felanilla.

Die Kombination aus Ma Griffe und Coriandre war erstaunlich gut, weil die Bitterkeit von Ma Griffe etwas abgemildert wird und die grünen Noten deutlich zunehmen. The combination of Ma Griffe and Coriandre worked really well, because it toned down Ma Griffe´s bitterness and enhanced the green notes.

Auf dem Teller, schliesslich hat man im Lockdown-Urlaub genug Zeit am Herd…. Blumenkohl-Kartoffelcurry mit Kichererbsen, Broccolicremesuppe, gebratene Maultaschen mit Ei, Spargelrisotto, Ochsenschwanzragout mit Polenta, Rhabarberkuchen, Nudeln mit gebratenem Spargel und Speck, Kimchi-Kässpätzle.

On my plate, because all you can do in your holiday in a lockdown is cook, eat and watch TV…. Cauliflower-Potato-Curry with Chickpeas, cream of broccoli soup, fried Maultaschen, risotto with asparagus, oxtail ragu with polenta, pasta with fried asparagus and bacon, Spätzle with cheese and kimchi, rhubarb cake.

Gemacht: Nachdem es immer noch keine Masken gibt, habe ich für mich und die Familie einige aus Reststoffen selbst genäht. Sie sind zwar nicht virendicht, aber halten vielleicht ein bisschen ab und verhindern es andere versehentlich anzustecken… Socken habe ich auch gestrickt, erfreulicherweise auch zum Teil in der Sonne auf dem Balkon.

Made: i sewed some nose and mouth guards from cloth, because there are no others to be had. I made some for me and my family. They are not extremely safe, but will at least block some droplets while coughing and sneezing or being sneezed at…And i had some time to finish some socks, gladly one day it was warm enough on the balcony.

Soziales Highlight – ein Spaziergang mit einer Freundin und ihrem niedlichen Hund in gebührendem Abstand über die Felder. Social highlight of the week was a walk in the fields with a friend and her lovely dog, keeping a safe distance.

Weekly diary

Diese Woche war eine reine Chypre-Woche. Irgendwie finde ich diese klassischen und eher ernsten Düfte aktuell für meine Seelenverfassung am passendsten. Daher trug ich Mitsouko, Chypre Siam, Empreinte, Aromatics Elixir, Vintage Gucci No 3, Miss Dior (vintage) und Niki de Saint Phalle. I wore only chypres this week, because i found them most fitting for my actual state of mind. 

Auf dem Teller: Kimchi fried rice, Rote Beete Salat, Pancakes mit Blaubeeren und Sirup, Spargel mit Kratzete. Essen gehen geht ja nun auch nicht mehr, daher alles selbstgemacht. Auswärts essen findet nun auf dem Balkon statt!

On my plate – and all homemade, because the restaurants are closed because of Covid19 . Kimchi fried rice, beet salad, pancakes with sirup and blueberries, asparagus with Kratzete (a special thick and fluffy pancake, that is afterwards ripped in small pieces, think Kaiserschmarrn, but salty). Dining out now means eating on our balcony!

Gemacht: immerhin zwei einzelne Socken fertiggestrickt, etwas Hausputz, Bilderrahmen-Halter aufgehängt.  Leere Klopapier-Regale im Markt bestaunt und viele einsame Spaziergänge gemacht.

Made: I managed to finish two single socks, cleaned a bit in the apartment and finally installed some picture rails in the living room. I was astounded to see totally empty shelves in the drugstore, where the toilet paper used to be. And we made lots of lonely walks together after work. 

Nachdem aber nun auf die Friseure zumachen mussten und ich dringend einen Nachschnitt brauchte, habe ich mich mit Mut und Todesverachtung mit dem Haarschneider bewaffnet und die Seiten und hinten  auf 15mm kurz geschoren. Die Haare am Oberkopf wurden so pi mal Daumen mit der Schere gekürzt. Schaut zumindest nicht soo schlecht aus.

As all hairdressers had to close shop because of the Covid crisis and i badly needed a haircut i finally decided to do it myself. I could not convince the boyfriend to cut my hair, he was too afraid! So i shortened the sides to 15mm with the cutting machine and shortened the hair on the top a bit with scissors. I am quite content with my first self haircut, it looks okay to me.

Getragen/Worn: Ich hatte als Thema eine Woche mit grünen Düften, daher Bracken Woman, Vert de Fleur, Untitled, Chanel No19, L´Air de Rien, Coriandre, Fico di Amalfi. I wore mostly green scents this week.

L´Air de Rien war das Parfum für den Day of the Dude….. I wore L´Air de Rien for the Day of the Dude.

Auf dem Teller: Suppe der Braut Ezo, Frittata mit dicken Bohnen, Kutteln und Bratkartoffeln im Ratskeller in Heilbronn. Selbstgemachtes Ramen mit Chashu und weichem Ei, nicht so gut wie in Japan, aber immerhin…

On my plate: Turkish lentil soup, frittata with broad beans, tripes and fried potatoes at the Ratskeller in Heilbronn. We made Ramen with homemade bone broth, homemade noodles, chased and miso egg. It was good, but not as good as the ramen we ate in Japan.

Getragen/Worn: Jil Sander Evergreen (belanglos hübsch und schnell weg) , Chypre-Siam, Chanel Gabrielle (Langeweile für viel Geld), Vintage Zen EdC, Attar Collection Persian Gold, Vintage Ma Griffe, Memoire d´une Odeur. I tested Evergreen and Gabrielle for the first time. Both are very harmless and nothing to be excited about. 

Auf dem Teller: Pizza beim Italiener, Gnocci mit Gorgonzola und Mangold, libanesischer Orangenkuchen, Chicken in Pickling Spices. Massenweise Tonkotsu Ramen Brühe eingekocht aus 7kg Schweineknochen, eine 2Tage-Aktion mit Brühe kochen und nachher noch einkochen.

On my plate: Pizza dinner at the restaurant, gnocchi with gorgonzola and greens, Libanese orange cake, chicken in pickling spices. And we cooked lots of tonkotsu ramen broth from 7kg pork bones. This took the whole weekend to cook and to can it afterwards.

Gesehen: Sense8 auf Netflix, bin aber noch nicht ganz durch. I started binge-watching Sense8 on Netflix, but have some episodes left.

Auf dem Teller: Broccolisalat mit Kernen, Pasta bolognese, Ossobuco milanese, versunkener Apfelkuchen, Blumenkohlsalat mit Feta und Kichererbsen. Beim Kochen war ich leider behindert mit dem Fingerverband nach einer Biopsie im Nagelbett. Dafür muss ich nicht abwaschen!

On my plate: broccoli slaw with seeds, pasta bolognese, Ossobuco, apple pie, cauliflower salad with feta and chickpeas.  Cooking was a bit unpractical with the bandage on my finger after i got a biopsy of the nailbed. But now the boyfriend has to wash the dishes!

Gesehen: die komplette Staffel Locke und Key, hat mir gut gefallen. Der Autor ist der Sohn von Stephen King -erklärt wohl alles….

Watched: Locke and Key, which i liked a lot. No wonder- the author is Stephen King´s son…

Auf dem Teller: Kürbissuppe mit Linsen, Hühner-Paprikash mit Spätzle, Pasta alle Vongole, gebratener Lachs

On my plate: pumpkin soup with lentils, chicken paprikash with spaetzle, pasta vongole, salmon.

Bücher: Macomber- A turn in the road, damit ist die Reihe für mich beendet. sehr leichte Lektüre, aber manchmal braucht man auch das. Stephen Kings “Mr Mercedes” als Hörbuch, bin fast durch. Ein etwas untypischer King, mehr Krimi als übersinnlich, aber doch ganz spannend. Neu angefangen: “The fifth season” von Jemisin. Dazu habe ich noch keine Meinung.

Books: finished the last of the Macomber Blossom street books. A very light read, but nice. At the moment i am listening to Kings “Mr. Mercedes”, which is a untypical King, more a detective story and not so much supernatural. I like it and have the sequel downloaded too. I just started “The fifth season” by Jemisin, but i am still undecided if i like it.

Auf dem Teller: Pizza beim Italiener, Frittata mit dicken Bohnen, Mograbieh-Salat mit Feta, Kimchi Fried Rice, geschmorter Wirsing mit Nudeln und Bratwurst, Matjesheringsalat, Szechuan-Küche im Restaurant.

On my plate: Pizza at our Italian restaurant, frittata with broad beans, mograbieh-salad with feta, kimchi fried rice, smothered savoy with pasta and sausage, herring salad with sour cream, Szechuan food at a newly discovered restaurant.

Unternommen: die Azteken-Ausstellung im Lindenmuseum in Stuttgart war ziemlich interessant, schliesslich sind die Azteken für uns immer noch ein rätselhaftes Volk. Die Ausstellung war gut aufgebaut und der Audioguide lohnt sich wirklich. Danach waren wir im Sichuan essen. Authentisch wirkende Küche im sehr schlichten Ambiente, Preis-Leistung war top. Wir kommen wieder…

Done: we visited the Aztec- exhibition in the Lindenmuseum in Stuttgart. It was quite interesting. I recommend getting the audioguide too. Afterwards we went to a Chinese restaurant called Sichuan. The food seemed really authentic and tasted good. We will come again!

Getragen/Worn: Cristalle Eau Verte, Calligraphy Saffron, Aromatics Elixir, Kashnoir (ähnelt ziemlich Forreau Noir), Courreges Empreinte, Ormonde Woman, Musc Encensé, mb03, Rouge Cardinal, Fille en Aiguilles. In der nächsten Zeit wird es wohl einiges an Weihrauchdüften geben, denn ich habe bei parfumo ein Probenpaket gewonnen. There will be more incense scents the next days, because i won a sample package on the parfumo website!

Auf dem Teller: Selbstgemachte Pizza mit Kapern und Sardellen und Pilzen, Rote Beete Salat, Feijoada, Kimchi pancakes, Grünkernsalat mit Feta und Falafel, Steckrübeneintopf mit Wiener Würstchen.

On my plate: homemade pizza with capers, anchovies and mushrooms, beet salad, feijoada, kimchi pancakes, farro salad with feta and falafel, swede soup with carrots, potatoes and sausage.

Gelesen: Ich lese mich gerade durch die Debbie Macomber Reihe der “Blossom Street” und bin gerade beim vierten Band angekommen. Leichte Lektüre, aber nett geschrieben und ausserdem wird auch gestrickt….  Currently reading the “Blossom Street” series by Debbie Macomber. Its a light read, but charming and there is some knitting involved, so thats a plus.

Kreativ: Ein paar Nähte vom Appleton Wickelkleid von Cashmerette patterns genäht. Ein wirklich super Schnitt und passt auch gut. Kann ich nur empfehlen.

I managed to sew some seams on my new Appleton dress by Cashmerette. It will be the second dress with this pattern, highly recommended.

Getragen/Worn: Ambre de Merveilles, Felanilla, Ambre Russe (für Silvester/for New Years Eve), Bianchi Under my skin, Tangier Vanille, Niki de Saint Phalle, Empreinte, Zagorsk.

In der Schlossparfümerie Stuttgart habe ich Pour La Belle getestet. Hierbei handelt es sich um eine Eigenproduktion der Parfümerie. Es wird wohl in Grasse bei Micallef vertrieben. Ein wirklich moosiger Chypre mit einem kräutereigen Auftakt mit Koriander, dann einige unsüsse Blumen (Ylang, Jasmin, Rose) und danach die volle Eichenmoosdröhnung. Die Vorgabe an die Verkäuferin war “etwas animalisches mit Zibet”, das ist wohl auch enthalten, steht aber nicht in der Duftpyramide. Der Duft hat aber definitiv einen gewissen RRRR- Faktor. Zudem ist die Haltbarkeit wirklich gut. Abends um fünf aufgesprüht, viel geschwitzt und am Morgen war es noch immer deutlich riechbar. Zudem ein Schnäppchen mit 100ml für 90€….

I went perfume testing during the weekend and went to the Schlossparfümerie in Stuttgart. They have a own perfume line and i testet their “pour la Belle”, a very mossy chypre with some animalic undertones. It has notes of herbs (coriander), followed by some un-sweet florals (rose, Jasmin, ylang) and the base is extremely mossy. As i sought something with civet, it seems to be contained too, although its not mentioned in the pyramid. But it has the certain roar-factor. Longevitiy is very good, i could smell it for nearly 18h on my skin .For 100ml and 90€ its a good deal too.

Auf dem Teller: Pasta mit Broccoli und Huhn, Linsensuppe mit Tamarinde und Ingwer, Saure Kutteln mit Ofenkartoffeln, Kalbsleber und Stampfkartoffeln, Avgolemonosopa. Zu Silvester gab es Feldsalat mit Trüffelburrata, hausgemachte Nudeln mit Petersilie-Walnusspesto, Schokomousse mit Granatapfelkernen.

On the plate: Pasta with broccoli and chicken, lentil soup with tamarind and ginger, tripes with oven potatoes, veals liver with mashed potatoes, greek avgolemonosopa. For New Years Eve we had salad with truffled burrata, homemade pasta with pesto, mousse au chocolate.

Selbst gemacht: Der Kielo Wrap Dress ist endlich fertig, ganz zufrieden bin ich allerdings nicht. Und ein zweites T-Shirt für meinen Bruder habe ich noch fertiggemacht. Diesmal mit etwas verschmälerten Schultern. Finally i finished the Kielo Wrap dress, but i am not 100% pleased with the fit. Its comfy nontheless. And i made a second shirt for my brother, this time with a narrower shoulder.

On my plate: Pho at the restaurant, Spätzle, Lentils and brined tongue for Christmas eve, Linguine with tofu bolognese, Pumpkin soup, Tarte flambé at a supermarket restaurant in France, fresh oysters, Chicken in milk (Jamie Oliver recipe), rice pudding with cardamom, cumin and apples.

Diese Woche war eher anstrengend, alle Elternteile über Weihnachten abklappern, zu viel Essen, zu viel Rumsitzen, zu wenig Frischluft. Aber immerhin haben wir den Freitag noch zu einer kleinen Shoppingtour nach Frankreich genutzt (nur 120km!) und waren zum ersten Mal im Shoppingcenter Roppenheim, das eine wirklich schöne Auswahl an Geschäften hat. Wer Schuhe, Kleidung oder Sportzeug sucht, der wird bestimmt fündig. Danach noch eine Runde durch den Leclerc in Soufflenheim für Käse, Terrinen und Huhn. Ausserdem waren wir in der Oper in Stuttgart und haben uns “Die Liebe zu den drei Orangen” angesehen. Eine witzige Inszenierung, schräge Kostüme und gute Ideen der Regie. Sollte man öfter machen!

This week was a bit exhausting. We had to visit all our parents, eat too much, sit around too much and had not enough fresh air. But we made a small shopping trip to France, visited the shopping mall in Roppenheim (quite nice) and went to the Leclerc supermarket for lots of cheese, terrines and chicken. And we went to the Opera in Stuttgart for Prokofievs “Love for the three oranges”, which was really funny. The costumes were great and we liked the interpretation of the director a lot. We should go there more often!

Merry Christmas

Die Wochenstatistik ist ja leider ausgefallen, da wir innerhalb von vier Tagen über die Weihnachtstage zwei verschiedene Eltern abklappern mussten. Es gab zu viel Essen, nicht ganz so viel Wein, selbstgebackene Plätzchen und viele Kilometer auf der Autobahn.

My weekly statistic on Sunday was skipped, because we had to visit his and my parents in four days. So we had too much food, lots of wine, homemade cookies and lots of driving on Germanys roads.

Gemacht: Meine Freundin war zum Gänseessen da, da war am Nachmittag noch Zeit für sie ebenfalls eine York Pinafore zu nähen, hat etwa drei Stunden gedauert. Sie hat sie gleich mitgenommen. Ausserdem noch die Rebel Joggers aus dunkelblauem Sweatshirtstoff für den Mann des Hauses zum Herumfummeln. Schliesslich hat er nächste Woche Urlaub und soll es bequem haben…

Made: my friend was there for the weekend, so there was time to sew a York pinafore dress for her. It just took me 3 hours. I also made Rebel joggers for the boyfriend from some navy sweatshirt fabric for lounging at home for his holidays next week.

Gelesen: The long way to a small and and angry planet, mit diversen freundlichen und ein paar unfreundlichen Aliens, einem Mechaniker, der den Schiffscomputer liebt usw….. Eher ein Feel-good-SF, aber sehr hübsch beschrieben. Es gibt noch zwei Bände, vermutlich werde ich die auch noch lesen.

Read: The long way to a small and angry planet, a nice Space Opera with lots of friendly aliens, some grumpy ones and a lot of interaction on board of a stellar ship. A real feel good SF, so if you like this, i can recommend it, There are two more books in this series, which i will probably read too….

Gemacht: meine zweite York Pinafore aus olivfarbenem Babycord ist endlich auch fertig geworden. Dabei habe ich gleich meine neue Nähmaschine testen können. Es ist eine Elna 680 geworden. Im Vergleich zu meiner uralten Bernina sport aus den 80ern ist das wirklich ein enormer Unterschied.

Made: i finished my second York Pinafore dress from some olive baby cord. As i bought a new sewing machine after 30 years, i am really happy with my new machine. It really makes a difference.

Buch und Film: “Boys Life” fertig gehört, eine Geschichte über die Kindheit in den 60ern, teils mit etwas surrealen Einsprengseln, aber trotzdem sehr Hörenswert. Den Fantasyband “AO” habe ich nach dem ersten Band abgebrochen, war einfach zu schlecht erzählt. Serienmässig bin ich wieder mal im Star Trek Universum gelandet und reise nun mit Captain Janeway, leider für mich die schwächste Serie… I finished the audiobook “Boys Life”, which was a nice story of a childhood in the 60ies with some surreal Stephen King-esque add-on. Nevertheless a good story. Tried to read a german fantasy “AO”, but had enough after the first book – a waste of my time. I started Star Trek Voyager this week, although its not my favorite one.

Wir waren auf der Stuttgarter Herbstmesse, ein teurer Besuch, denn ich habe eine neue Nähmaschine bestellt, die Elna 680. Fast 200 verschiedene Stiche und andere Gimmicks…. Einweisung und Abholung sind dann hoffentlich nächste Woche. Nachdem ich 30 Jahre lang meine alte Bernina sport 702 hatte, ist das ein Sprung ins Computerzeitalter. Ich bin gespannt. We went to the Stuttgart autumn fair, which was a very expensive visit, because i finally tested some new sewing machines and ordered a ELNA 680 with almost 200 different stitches and gimmicks. I sewed 30 years on my old Bernina, so i am now entering a new level of technique. 

Reiseplanung: Nächstes Jahr soll es nach USA gehen, auf jeden Fall nach San Francisco,Yellowstone, Grand Canyon und Vegas. Die Planung läuft! We are planning next years vacations in the USA and pondering our route. San Francisco, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon and Las Vegas are on our list.

Gehört und gesehen: Als Hörbuch aktuell “Der Report der Magd” von Atwood, als Buch den zweiten Band einer SF-Trilogie: Erst “Native Tongue”, jetzt “The Judas Rose” von Suzette Haden Elgin, der in einem paternalistischen Amerika der Zukunft spielt – plus Linguisten und Aliens. Ich habe beide Bände schon in den 80ies gelesen, jetzt gibt es sie auch aus Kindle-Versionen. Wer intelligenteren SF mag, der sollte da mal reinschauen. Auf Netflix schaue ich gerade Star Trek Discovery, auch nicht schlecht!

Seen and heard: Audiobook ” The Handmaid´s Tale”. On Kindle first “Native Tongue”, now “The Judas Rose” bei S. Haden Elgin. If you like intelligent, a bit feministic SF, both are a good read. The author is a linguist herself, so its an interesting thought, that she develops. On Netflix i am watching Star Trek Discovery.

Gemacht: Der York Pinafore Dress ist fertig und wurde auch schon fleissig getragen. Super bequem, denn in der Taille kneift nix, und die grossen Taschen sind so praktisch. Ein zweiter ist schon geplant.

Made: My York Pinafore Dress is finally finished and has been worn a lot. It is really comfy and the big pockets are so practical. I will make another in olive corduroy soon.

Besucht: Das Pfarrer Hahn Museum in Kornwestheim, das jeden ersten Sonntag im Monat geöffnet hat. Pfarrer Hahn nicht nur Kleriker, sondern auch Erfinder und Astronom und hat auch die erste funktionierende Rechenmaschine entwickelt, die alle Grundrechenarten beherrscht. Oben seht ihr ein Astrolabium von 1800.

Visited: The Pastor Hahn Museum in Kornwestheim near Stuttgart. This guy not only was a cleric, but an astronomer, mathematician and inventor. He invented the first mechanical calculation machine, which really worked. He also made the beautiful astrolabium you can see above.

Grosse Kürbisernte im Garten, die grossen Walfische heissen Piena di Napoli und wiegen ca 15-20kg. Okay, es wird wohl viel Kürbis geben…. We harvested our pumpkins in our allotment. The green big ones are called Piena di Napoli and weigh around 15kg each. We will have a lot of pumpkin recipes to try.

Audiobook: Der Gesang der Flusskrebse, ein Krimi, der mit einer Geschichte vom Aufwachsen eines Mädchens in den Marschgebieten von Carolina verbunden ist. Ich bin noch nicht ganz durch, aber es ist durchaus fesselnd, wenn auch manchmal nicht ganz glaubhaft, wie überlebt eine Sechsjährige so gut wie alleine in der Marsch??

Right now i am hearing Delia Owens- Where the Crawdads sing, about a girl living in the marsh of Carolina. This is mixed with a crime story about the death of a man, that she once had a relationship with. It is a good “read”, although sometimes its not very believable (a six-year old living alone in the marsh???). I have not finished the book, but so far i like it a lot.

Sightseeing :

Avallon (nein, nicht Artus Avalon…), mit schönem mittelalterlichem Stadtkern, Stadtmauer und einem hochinteressanten Kostümmuseum. Lauter Originalgewänder von ca 1700 bis zur Neuzeit. Sehenswert. Avallon is a nicely situated medieval city with murals, old buildings and an interesting museum for historic fashion. They have lots of original clothes, dating from 1700 to now. Worth a visit!

Guédelon, ein archäologisches Projekt, das den Bau einer Burg des 13. Jahrhunderts mit den Mitteln der selben Zeit durchführt. Inzwischen sind 20 Jahre verstrichen, es ist immer noch nicht fertig. Es gibt viele Werkstätten zu bestaunen, vom Steinmetz bis zum Schmid und Seiler ist alles vertreten, was der Bauherr so brauchte. Auch toll für Kinder… In Guédelon you can see an archeologic project, as they are building a medieval castle with mediaval techniques. Until now they worked on it for 20years and its not finished. You can visit lots of craftsmen shops like smiths, ropers and others.

Abtei von Fontenay, ein wunderbar erhaltenes Klosterensemble aus dem Mittelalter, vom Heiligen Bernhard gegründet. Wunderschöne romanische Kirche, Kapitelsaal, Schlafsaal, alte Schmiede etc. Dazu noch ein sehr schöner Garten. Zu Recht ein Weltkulturerbe! Fontenay Abbey is a mediaval complex containing a church, a sleeping room for the monks, a room for work, a big house for the blacksmiths and much more. Surrounded by beautiful gardens in a lovely valley. A World heritage site for sure!

Vézelay war einst ein wichtiger Ort am Jakobsweg und hat seine mittelalterliche Struktur gut erhalten. Kaum Autos im Stadtzentrum zugelassen. Geschmackvolle Souvenirshops. Wunderbare Aussicht ins umgebende Gelände. Die romanische Kirche ist ebenfalls sehenswert. Vézelay once was an important stop at the route to Compostela and still has a mediaval structure. The dome is romanic and really beautiful.

Am Samstag waren wir in Vaihingen-Rosswag um unseren Kirschenschnaps vom Schnapsbrenner abzuholen – 11 Liter Schnaps! Und nach einem Blick auf die schönem Steilhang-Weinlagen haben wir noch ein paar Flaschen bei der Winzergenossenschaft zum Testen mitgenommen. Abends dann zum Jahresfest des CVJM auf ein Glas Wein und einen Flammkuchen.

We went to Vaihingen to the private distillery to fetch the cherry spirits made from our own cherries. Now we have 11 liters! On our way we saw the beautiful vineyards on the roadside, so we stopped at the Winemakers shops to buy some local wine too. In the evening we went to the yearly festival of the YMCA for some flammkuchen and a glass of wine.

Kreativ: Nachdem der erste Strickjackenversuch nicht so toll ausgefallen ist, habe ich mich für Lauriel von Ysolda Teague umentschieden und bin nun zum Glück schon über die Musterpasse mit den verschränkten Maschen hinausgekommen. Jetzt kann ich wenigstens wieder fast hirnlos glatt rechts vor mich Hinstricken….

Creative: My first try for a new cardigan went not so well, so i started over and cast on Ysolda Teagues Lauriel Cardigan. I like the patterned yoke but am happy that i finished all those twisted stitches. Now its just mostly plain and mindless knitting.

On the plate: Braised gherkins with minced meat, Burger at our local Rock-Festival, Pizza with sepia at the Italian restaurant, Spaghetti with miso butter and zucchini, tamagoyaki and green bean salad, Korean braised pork belly with kimchi. We have tons of tomatoes and bell peppers from our garden, so we are just freezing them for the winter.

Kreativ: Eine Zuschneideorgie am Sonntag. Insgesamt für einen neuen Pembroke Dress, einen Fringe Dress und eine York pinafore sowie aus Resten einen neuen Slip. Jetzt habe ich wieder Vorrat zum Nähen

Creative: I cut fabric for lots of projects. A new Pembroke Dress, a Fringe Dress and a denim York Pinafore and underwear from some scraps. Now i just have to sew them up.

Buch/Film: Immer noch Kakerlaken von Nesbo. Angefangen als Audiobook ” Der nasse Fisch”. “Sherlock” ist leider aus, weiter geht es mit “Dark”.

Book&Film: Still reading “Cockroaches” from Nesbo. Began a new audiobook “Der nasse Fisch”. Sadly “Sherlock” is finished, so i now started on “Dark”.

Bin allerdings noch unentschlossen ob er nun gut oder seltsam aussieht, wahrscheinlich trifft beides zu…

Books and films: I am starting the Harry Hole series by Nesbo, i finished “The Bat”, now reading “Cockroaches”. Watching “Sherlock” on Netflix, because i love the voice of Cumberbatch. Still undecided if he is good-looking or looks a big strange. I think both….

Gelesen/Gesehen: Das Mammutbuch “A little life ” von Yanagihara ist endlich durch. Die gut tausend Seiten haben sich echt hingezogen, vor allem weil die Story insgesamt doch sehr deprimierend ist und man gar nicht länger am Stück lesen mochte. Dass sich die Zentralfigur am Ende umbringt, war wirklich nicht überraschend. Trotzdem war es gut geschrieben und eine interessante Leseerfahrung. Fertig gesehen habe ich “Dark Mirror” auf Netflix. Wer auf Dystopien steht, der ist damit gut bedient. Neu angefangen: “River”.

Read/Watched: Finally i got to the end of “A little life”, a very depressing and a bit disturbing read. I couldn’t read long passages, because it soon got too much. I wasn’t surprised, that the hero took his own life in the end. Still an interesting story. On Netflix i finished “Dark Mirror”, which is fine if you like dystopic fiction. Now i started “River”.

Kreativ: Zwei weitere John-Unterhosen für den Mann sind fertiggeworden, diesmal in blauem Jersey mit Sternchen. Ausserdem ein Hemd von Wardrobebyme, nämlich das Tropical Shirt. Das zweite ist mit einer leicht schmaleren Schulterpartie bereits in Arbeit.

Creative: I sewed another two John underpants for the boyfriend and finished a short sleeved shirt. Pattern is by Wardrobebyme, the Tropical shirt. I am sewing a second one at the moment, this time with a slightly narrower shoulder.

Kreativ: Unterhose für den Mann genäht sowie ein Hemd in Arbeit. Und ich habe endlich den Chickadee Cardigan von Ysolda angeschlagen. Hoffentlich wird der zum Herbst fertig. Working on a tropical shirt for the boyfriend, but first must buy buttons…. and i cast on for the Chickadee cardigan from Ysolda Teague, hopefully it will be done til autumn.

Und seit einer Woche der Versuch umweltfreundlicher zur Arbeit zu kommen, jetzt kann ich viel an Haltestellen herumstehen. Momentan trotzdem besser als im Stau stehen. I am using the communal transport to get to work, i hope this works out. I have to change four times, but at the moment its still better than queing up on the motorway….

Activities: Kornwestheim free music festival with a Phil Collins cover band. Pulled pork from an italian food stand. A long Thai massage with my favorite therapist Noi. My friend from Ulm visited on Sunday, we cooked, went to our garden and has icecream at Angelo.

Kreativ: Eine Retro-Unterhose für den Freund genäht. Sewed some retro underpants for the boyfriend.

Gekocht/Gegessen: Linguine mit Salsicchia, Pork Burger, überbackenes Gyros beim Griechen, selbstgemachte Focaccia, Bun Nudelsalat vietnamesisch mit Huhn. Made Linguine with salsicchian, Pork burger at the festival, baked gyros at our greek restaurant, homemade focaccia. Vietnamese bun noodles with herbs and chicken.

Gelesen/Gesehen: Immer noch als Buch “A little life”, denn das ist so quälend und deprimierend, dass ich nicht lange dabeibleiben kann. Der Protagonist ist einfach so ein armes Schwein, dass man richtig mitleidet. Als Hörbuch fertig: Suleika öffnet die Augen. Die Geschichte einer tatarischen Bäuerin, die während der russischen Revolution zwangsumgesiedelt wird und letztlich doch in Sibirien zu sich findet. War durchaus einmal etwas anderes zum anhören. Aktuelles Hörbuch ist nun wieder mal SF aus Russland. Metro 2033, da habe ich aber noch keine richtige Meinung dazu gebildet. Gesehen habe ich auf Netflix die Stadtgeschichten. Stories aus San Francisco aus den späten Siebzigern mit vielen Themen wie Homo- und Transsexualität sowie den gesellschaftlichen Umbruch. Liebevoll erzählt und auch ein bisschen was fürs Herz… Aktuell sehe ich Stranger Things. Erinnert mich sehr an Stephen King.

Read/Watched: Still reading ” A little life”, but its so depressing, that i cannot read this for more than half an hour. I finished the audiobook “Suleika opens her eyes”, a story of a tartar peasant wife, which was transported to Siberia during the Russian Revolution. Now i am listening to “Metro 2033”, a Russian Sci-Fi novel. Watched “Tales of the City” on Netflix and liked it a lot. Now i started “Stranger Things”, which reminds me of a mixup of different Stephen King novels.

Kreativ: ein T-Shirt nach einem Schnitt von Deer and Doe. Immer noch nichts gestrickt, obwohl ich schon eine Maschenprobe fertig habe.

Creative: Finished a plantain T-Shirt. Still did not knit anything, although i finished my swatch.

Am Donnerstag wurde der neue Linearbeschleuniger mit der Bestrahlung meiner eigenen Finger eingeweiht. Hoffnungsvoll kann ich dann wieder besser mit meinen Zeigefingern arbeiten. Trotzdem ein seltsames Gefühl, einmal selbst bestrahlt zu werden. Wochenende in München mit Krankenhausbesuchen bei meinem Freund, unterbrochen mit ein bisschen Windowshopping bei Oberpollinger und Füsse in die Isar hängen.

On Thursday we started treating our first patients, but the first irradiation was for my own index fingers. Hopefully my arthrosis will hurt less in some weeks. Funny feeling being treated as a patient. Long weekend in Munich visiting the boyfriend in the hospital. Still had some time for windowshopping and the perfume mall in the Oberpollinger. And some cooling of my feet in the Isar river.

Auf dem Teller: Schweinebraten italienisch sowie auch bayrisch mit Knödeln, gebratene Zucchini und Zucchini gefüllt, selbstgezogene Chiles de Padron (leider etwas scharf…) Joghurteis mit schwarzen Johannisbeeren. On the plate: Roast pork Italian style and Bavarian style with dumplings, roast zucchini, stuffed zucchini, Chiles de Padron from our balcony (sadly a bit more fiery than supposed to be), homemade yoghurt and cassis icecream.

Kreativ: der Teahouse Dress ist immerhin fotographiert. Zwei knielange Shorts aus Jersey für den Klinikhaufenthalt des Mannes sind genäht, dann kann er wenigsten bequem im Krankenbett liegen, der Arme.

Creative: i finally took some photos of the Teahouse Dress. Otherwise i made to kneelength jersey bottoms for the boyfriend to take to the hospital. At least he can recover comfortably, the poor boy!

Ansonsten: bestellte Schilder sollte man erst lesen, dann aufhängen. Zum Glück ist es noch aufgefallen! And something completely different: if you order some signs for your workplace, better read them, before you hang them. Luckily i saw this before we open on Monday 

Jetzt noch ein bisschen Full Incense Nachsprühen, das beruhigt die Nerven…. Now off to spray some more Full Incense, good for my nerves.

Gesehen/Watched: Deep Space Nine ist fertig, nun beginnt die Suche nach einer anderen Serie. I finally finished all series of Deep Space Nine, now i am searching for another series, still undecided.

Gereist: Ein Wochenende in München, teils aus nicht so schönem Anlass, aber dennoch hatten wir einen netten Tag im Eiscafé, am Flaucherbiergarten, ein bisschen Füsse in einem Zufluss der Isar gekühlt und ein tolles Essen im HaNoi in der Au. Last weekend we went to Munich and had a nice Vietnamese dinner with friends, went to the Eiscafé and the Flaucher Beergarden and cooled our feet in a small stream near the Isar.

Kreativ/Creative: Der Teahouse Dress ist endlich fertig, aber Fotos kommen erst noch. Dafür habe ich mich im Unterwäsche-Nähen versucht und sowohl für mich als auch für den Mann je eine Unterbüx genäht. I finally finished the Teahouse Dress, but i have not made photos yet. And i tested underwear patterns and made some underpants for me and the boyfriend.

Gegessen und gekocht/Cooked and eaten: Risotto mit grünem Spargel, Pizza mit Kapern und Sardellen, Hummus, Johannisbeermuffins mit Eierlikör, Linseneintopf mit Rhabarber, eine riesige Platte beim nachbarschaftlichen Griechen. We had Asparagus Risotto, homemade Pizza with capers and Anchovis, Hummus, a lentil soup with rhubarb, i made redcurrant muffins and we were dining out at our local greek and ate a huge meat platter.

Gelesen/Gesehen: Deep Space Nine, immer noch. Audiobook Stein und Flöte von Bemmann, nur was für Märchenfreunde, da ein bisschen langatmig. Still watching Deep Space Nine on Netflix. On Audiobook is Stone and Flute from Hans Bemmann.

Im Garten wurde der Kirschbaum beschnitten und aus den Kirschen haben wir eine Maische für Schnaps angesetzt. 120l Kirschen gepflückt! Ein bisschen Jahrestag feiern auf dem Balkon mit Cremant von Herrn Mullenbach aus Niedermohrschwihr. Und der Lenox-Shirtdress wurde fertig! Und es passt….

We had our cherry tree cut, because it was much too big and then plucked 120l of cherries to make cherry spirits. A litte feast on the balcony for our anniversary with a lovely cremant from Mullenbach. And i finally finished the Lenox shirtdress. It fits!

Der Garten kommt allmählich in Schwung, die ersten Zucchini sind schon zu sehen, ausserdem haben wir reichlich dicke Bohnen geerntet. Und beim Spazierengehen haben wir ein Ölbild zum Mitnehmen am Strassenrand gefunden. Ist nicht mal so schlecht. Das war dann auch der Anlass endlich nach einem Jahr mal die Bilder nach dem Umzug aufzuhängen.

The vegetable garden starts to thrive, we have the first zucchinis! And we had a good harvest of broad beans. While having a walk through the town we found a oil painting at the road to take for free. Its not bad at all. So we hung the painting and finally got to hang our pictures one year after moving…

Cooked/Eaten: Risotto with dried tomatoes and mushrooms, homemade plum tart, baked eggplants and zucchini with ground meat and a homemade bun noodle salad with herbs and ground meat.

Die letzten zwei Wochen war keine Zeit zum Bloggen, erst musste ich eine Woche den Kater meiner Mutter beaufsichtigen, damit sie auf ein Tanzseminar gehen konnte. Danach waren wir eine Woche im Elsass im hübschen Eguisheim, wo wir gut gegessen haben, Wein gekauft haben und spazieren gegangen sind. Eguisheim ist ein total hübsches Dörfchen, aber lange nicht so überlaufen wie Riquewihr und ist abends noch richtig gemütlich. Und es gibt dort massenhaft Störche, die ganz schön laut klappern können.

The last two weeks i did not have enough time for blogging. First i had to catsit my mothers senior tomcat, because she went to a dancing seminar. Then we spent a week in Eguisheim/Alsace to relax, take some walks and taste the wines. And they have lots of storks.

Finished the audiobook The Outsider from Stephen King, read by David Nathan. I love his voice. At the moment i am listening to a book of Jill Santopolo “The light we lost”. I finished Star Trek Next Generation, now i live on Deep Space Nine.

Cooked/Eaten: Georgian Kidneybean-Salad and eggplant rolls with walnuts, tagliatelle with asparagus and Safran, Asparagusquiche,. Had some nice Vietnamese noodle salad in a restaurant.

Kreatives: Ein Probeshirt des Plantain T-Shirts aus Ringelresten genäht. Aktuell liegen die zugeschnittenen Teile für das Lenox-Shirtdress herum. Und ich habe einen Emelie-Cardigan aus forstgrüner Wolle angefangen. Beides noch nicht fotografierwürdig.

Crafting: Made a Plantain shirt from some striped scraps, which turned out all right. At the moment i am sewing a Lenox shirtdress, but have not come very far. And i cast on a Emelie cardigan with some forestgreen wool. But nothing to show at the moment.

Der Garten wird allmählich für die Bepflanzung vorbereitet, im Gartencenter gab es bei Kölle auch tolle KoiKarpfen zu bestaunen. Bei gutem Wetter gab es den ersten Eisbecher bei Angelo. Die Nähprojekte gedeihen, ein tragbares Appleton Wickelkleid ist entstanden, ausserdem ein Pembroke- T-Shirtkleid.

The garden is prepared for planting. We saw beautiful Koi in the garden center. We had a big ice cream at Angelos in the sun. And i started to sew again and made a wearable Appleton wrap dress. Another dress is also finished.

Die Wochenstatistik

Zu Essen gab es geschmorten Kürbis mit Wirsing und Joghurtdip, Afghanisches Joghurt-Huhn mit Couscous, Tortellini mit frischem Spinat und Chorizo und zu Ostern natürlich einen Osterhasen/Kaninchen mit Rotwein und Dörrzwetschgen und selbstgebackenes Brioche.

We had some pumpkin with savoy cabbage and yoghurt dip, afghan yogurt chicken, tortellini with fresh spinach and a rabbit with red wine and dried plums for easter. And some homemade brioche, which was to die for.

Ich habe wieder angefangen zu nähen und nach einem Probeteil des Appleton Dress, einem Wickelkleid wird nun Version zwei begonnen. Die erste war an der Hüfte zu weit und der Stoff war nicht elastisch genug.

I started sewing again after at least 20 years and made a muslin of the Cashmerette Appleton dress. I have to go down a size in the hips and use a better fabric.

Diese Woche habe ich mich mehr auf meine Pröbchensammlung konzentriert: Parfumerie Generale- Cozé Verdé (erst Feige, dann synthethisches Holz, nicht meins), Clean Reserve- Blonde Rose, Scent Bar 111 (einen Tick zu beerig-pudrig), Tauer- Rose Flash (sehr marmeladige Rose), Felanilla und Champs Lunaires von Rogue Perfumery

This week i mostly used my sample stash: Cozé Verdé (Fig, then synthetic woods), Clean- Blonde Rose, Scent Bar 111, Rose Flash (Rose jam…), Felanilla and a very tuberose rich Champs Lunaires.

Gekocht: Ölsardinenaufstrich fürs Brot, Blumenkohl-Borlottibohnensalat mit Thunfisch. Gyros und Tintenfisch bei unserem örtlichen Griechen

I did not cook much, made a sardine-paté, a salad of cauliflower and borlotti beans with tuna. Had a nice dinner at the greek restaurant nearby with gyros and octopus.

Gesehen: Die Mini-Serie “Pose” bei Netflix dreht sich um die Ballroom-Szene der 80ies, war aber deutlich besser, als erwartet. Denn es ging nicht nur um schrille Kostüme, sondern auch um die Probleme der trans- und homosexuellen Szene und um AIDS in den Zeiten, in denen es fast keine Medikamente dafür gab. Da ich in dieser Zeit viel mit meinen homosexuellen Freunden unterwegs war. hat mir das die alten Zeiten wieder zurückgebracht, auch wenn ich persönlich eher zu den etwas braveren Gruftis gehörte. Ausserdem “Avatar”, den ich damals verpasst hatte. Hätte ich lieber auf einer grossen Leinwand gesehen, als auf Fernsehergrösse.

Watched: “Pose” on Netflix, which plays in the ballroom scene in the 80ies. This was not only about hilarious costumes, but also about the problems of the homo-and transsexuals and about AIDS in times, where there was not much therapy to be had. As i had many homosexual friends in the 80ies it brought back memories, even if i was more of a goth kind of girl. Also finally got to watch “Avatar”, but wished for a big screen instead of a TV.

 

Schneller als erwartet war auch am Dienstag mein letzter Arbeitstag, an dem ich nicht einen, sondern gleich zwei Blumensträusse bekommen habe sowie einige Gutscheine für Amazon und DM, die man ja immer für irgendwas gebrauchen kann. Mittwochs wurde für einen kleinen Bummel in Ludwigsburg genutzt, bei dem ich mir spontan die erste Gelmaniküre meines Lebens mit French Nails machen liess (ist in der Arbeit sonst aus Hygienegründen nicht erlaubt) und mich danach mit einem leckeren Falafelteller gestärkt habe. Allmählich fangen wir an für unsere Japan-Reise zu packen, Dienstag geht es los!

On my last day at work on Wednesday i got two flower-bouquets and a amazon card. The next day i went to Ludwigsburg for some window-shopping and spontaneously got my first gel-manicure with french nails, because you cannot have such nails in a medical profession.   Now we are starting to pack for our holidays in Japan, will fly on Wednesday…

Gegessen/Gekocht: die Patienten haben ordentlich Süsses angeschleppt, daher Faschingskrapfen mit Vanillecremefüllung, Käsekuchen, Bienenstich. Daheim wurden Hähnchenkeulen mit Gemüse gebacken, eine türkische Suppe mit roten Linsen und Paprika, ein schöner Mohn-Kastenkuchen und ein koreanisch geschmorter Schweinebauch mit Doenjang-Paste und Zwiebel, dazu Kimchi.

Cooked/Eaten: For carnival our patients brought lots of sweets like beignets with vanilla-buttercream, cheesecake and bee-sting cake. I baked a poppyseed cake, the boyfriend make chicken legs with vegetables. I tested a recipe for a turkish lentil soup with paprika and made some Korean pork belly with Kimchi and rice.

Gesehen/Gelesen: The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, aktuell Star Trek Next Generation. Ausserdem haben wir “Isn’t it Romantic” gesehen, eine witzige Komödie, in der eine unromantische Architektin in einer Romantikschnulze erwacht. Mit reichlich Filmzitaten von klassischen Romantic Comedies. “Die Kunst des toten Mannes” hat mir auch gut gefallen. Hier geht es um Gemälde eines verstorbenen Künstlers, die ihr fieses Eigenleben entwickeln. Tolle Seitenhiebe auf die Kunst-Szene, dazu ein bisschen surrealistischer Horror. Und mit Jake Gyllenhaal! Aktuelles Hörbuch: Hirngespenster, das zwar ganz spannend ist, aber die Logiklücken ärgern mich. Wie können zwei schulpflichtige Teenager selbst mit dem Auto in die Disco fahren???? Warum hören sie in den offensichtlich 80ies The Beautiful South? Oh Mann, ich hasse schlechte Recherche….

Watched/Read: Finished “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”, which is not bad. Now on to Star Trek Next Generation (love Picard and Lt. Data!). Watched two movies with the boyfriend and had some fun with “Isn’t it Romantic”, about a non-romantic architect getting into a romantic comedy after a head injury. Really funny. I also liked “Velvet Buzzsaw”, a rather tame horror movie about paintings of a dead artist, that kill their owners. Some side blows to the art scene too.  

Andere Neuigkeiten: mein letzter Arbeitstag ist nächster Dienstag, danach habe ich bis zum 1.6. Urlaub/Arbeitslosigkeit/Sabbatical. Nach fast 30 Jahren kontinuierlicher Arbeit habe ich mir wirklich mal eine Pause verdient und zwei Monate kann ich problemlos finanziell überbrücken.

Other news: my last workday will be Wednesday, then i take a sabbatical until 1.6. After 30years of continuous work i owe me a nice break. And i have enough money, so its no financial hardship.

 

Die Wochenstatistik

Getragen/Worn: Vanille d´Iris, Absolue pour le Matin (riecht leider hauptsächlich nach Nivea Creme, reichlich uninteressant smells like Nivea, but is a lot more expensive), Bracken Woman, Fath de Fath, Floris Night Scented Jasmin, Tangier Vanille (fruchtig-rosige Vanille) und Caron Pour un Homme.

Gekocht/Gegessen: Kimchi-Kässpätzle, Pastinaken-Cremesuppe mit Bergkäsewürfeln, Risoni mit Tomaten-Nduja-Sauce, Rhabarber-Johannisbeerkuchen, Gebackenen Kürbis mit Nürnbergern, Schweinehals mit Fenchel und Fenchelgemüse.

Nachdem ich am Montag Abend meinen neuen Arbeitsvertrag bekommen hatte, habe ich am Dienstag meine Kündigung eingereicht. Mittwochs hat mich dann eine Erkältung mit Kehlkopfentzündung flachgelegt, so dass ich mich in diversen Tees fast ersäuft habe. Am Freitag habe ich dann die Bestätigung meiner Kündigung bekommen. Sie wollen mich jetzt lieber so schnell wie möglich loswerden, so dass ich 8 Wochen Leerlauf zwischen den Stellen haben werde! Juhu, ein Sabbatical. Das wollte ich schon längst mal haben. Darauf haben wir dann auch am Freitag Abend mit Cremant angestossen. Und dank der Erkältung hatte ich mal Zeit für einen Serienmarathon und habe die restlichen Folgen von Outlander angesehen. Jetzt muss ich auf die nächste Staffel warten…

On monday i got my new contract signed, so i resigned the next day. Wednesday i got sick with a cold and laryngitis, so drank lots of tea and binge-watched Outlander. My employers now want to get rid of me as fast as possible, so i think i will quit the end of march and have 2 months in between! A sabbatical!!! We celebrated the news with a good bottle of Cremant Rosé. 

Die Wochenstatistik

Getragen: Eau de Merveilles Bleue, Ormonde Woman, Tauer L´Eau, Profumum Acqua di Sale, Chypre-Siam, Assam of India, Un Jardin en Mediterranée.  Am Sonntag wurde noch Amo Ferragamo, der Auftakt war ja noch ganz nett mit der Campari-Rhabarbernote, aber dann wurde das Ganze nur zu einer süsslich-vanilligen Beeren-Angelegenheit. Zumindest gute Haltbarkeit muss ich dem Parfum bescheinigen. Amo Ferragamo was a test, but after an initial nice Campari-Rhubarb opening it degraded to a fruity berry-note with lots of cloying vanilla and amber. Had to scrub this….

 

Gegessen/Gekocht: Linguine mit Scampi und Knoblauch, gefüllte Paprikaschoten mit Hack, Mozzarella und Kürbis. Blumenkohl und Pastinaken in Gänseschmalz aus dem Ofen, Wirsing-Hack-Kartoffelauflauf mit Tomaten und Käse, Maultaschensuppe aus Gänse/Entenkarkassen. Kimchivorrat aufgestockt. Am Sonntag eine leckere Bicicleta auf dem Balkon in der Sonne, fast wie im Sommer.

Cooked: Linguine con scampi e aglio, filled bell-peppers with minced meat, pumpkin, tomato and mozzarella. Cauliflower and parsnips in goose-fat, baked in the oven. I made a savoy-mince-tomato casserole with potatoes and on sunday cooked a soup with some duck and goose carcasses from scratch. Made a new Kimchi batch for the summer and had a bicicleta cocktail on sunday afternoon after a walk in the sun.

Gelesen/Gesehen: Dune-Teil 3 ist fertig, momentan läuft Kehlmanns “Die Vermessung der Welt” als Audiobook beim Autofahren. ” A little life” ist ein interessantes Buch, aber ein bisschen anstrengend, daher bin ich noch nicht so weit gekommen. Outlander ist die perfekte Entspannung für abends, denn gut aussehende muskulöse Männer im Rock, Intrigen und tolle Kostüme lassen sich ohne intellektuelle Anstrengung geniessen.

Read/Watched: Finished the third part of Herbert´s Dune. So at the moment i am fed up with Sci-Fi and am listening to Kehlmann- Measuring the World, a story about Humboldt and Gauss. I am still reading “A little Life”, but it is a slower read for me, as i only read in bed and get tired early. I am into the second series of Outlander and am enjoying this a lot.
